The COVID-19 crisis has shaken not only the UK but the entire World. Life has changed and the way we carry out our daily lives has been affected.
The travel industry, once a thriving business has been particularly hard hit with even some of the biggest companies falling. So where do we go from here?
The important thing is to build on hope and the human need to travel. This has been evident since the beginning of time. People have always travelled, for need, for joy or for work.
The world, which once seemed a large space has now been brought closer by it’s shared experience of COVID-19. People have had to stay inside, shut themselves off from friends and families and realise how small their world has become.
So I ask, will travel be back on the horizon soon. Yes, of course. People have an innate sense of adventure and curiosity about the world in which they live. Wanting to explore, learn and absorb other countries, religions, history and culture.
Now of course, things are not likely to be exactly the same. Modes and times of travel may change. There will still be a nervous element to booking and taking a holiday.
So how are Finesse Chauffeurs and Tours looking to make changes. Well we believe that more people will be working with smaller independent companies, to provide travel individuals and small groups. Rather than large package deals with limited controls on location, travel and accommodation.
This is why we are working together with independent agencies and travel advisers, as well as utilizing our own expertise to ensure our clients are safe and secure, having the holiday they want rather than a prepared, one size fits all.
One thing that we have learnt from this crisis is that individuals want opportunities based upon their needs. The ability to explore the natural world and absorb what is beautiful in life.
Everyday life is hectic for the majority of people. At Finesse Chauffeurs we can take away the need to plan their vacation. Sit back and enjoy the travel experience of their dreams.
Finesse Chauffeurs and Tours are currently taking requests for bookings for 2021. For more information please contact us; email@example.com
While things are a little quieter, we thought we would share a story of growth in business and how others help you to succeed.
When we begun our business we were starting from basics. We knew we had the right mentality, the focus and willingness to work hard to achieve our goals.
The problem was we didn’t have all the skills or an endless pot of money to plough into our dreams. So we had to start at the beginning.
We managed to sort out a website, important for getting visual. Created by us, it was basic to say the least. It worked for the interim anyway. It would be a few years down the line before we were introduced to an amazing man (Jock) who was able to put together a professional website. One that continues to get us amazing feedback and work to boot.
Jock took time to sit down and talk about our company, our goals and views moving forward. I remember the day we got to see what he had produced for us. A true visionary, who couldn’t have captured what was in our heads more clearer. Jock Turner remains an important part of our business development moving forward.
Just like our website we needed a logo to head the site and to be a pivotal part of the future image of Finesse Chauffeurs.
Once again we found an amazing local business headed by Sarah Medlin. Who I have to admit had the patience and understanding to make sure the finished product was 100%. What we ended up with was simple, inspirational and beautifully crafted.
As the years moved on and Finesse Chauffeurs grew we knew we needed a local accountant who was able to help. Oh and boy did we need it! You see driving, travel, tours, weddings etc. we can do, figures and HMRC not so LOL.
We approached several people, but no-one seemed the right fit. After all we believe in working with local people who have the right resources and skills to join our team. Now you may be thinking, they are not directly working for Finesse Chauffeurs. No but every company or individual we have ever worked, and continue to work with is very much part of the “FINESSE” Team.
One day while on a personal journey back through Bodmin, Mark noticed an Accounting office. Xero (software) specialist. Let’s just knock and see if we can make an appointment.
Paul Miller from Cornish Accounting Solutions was friendly, approachable and knowledgeable about his work. He is no longer just our accountant, he is a client, a business advisor and friend. Thank you Paul. Mind the step! (Just a little joke)
Now I had known of Shane from Cornwall Channel for several years. He had stated he wanted to help us get a professional video done for our website. Just to also mention, it was Shane that introduced us to Jock. Great B2B networking.
As time moved on and our business evolved into the firstname.lastname@example.org we decided to ask for help and advice from our good friend Vikki (Gloss). She has a great background in the media and glossy magazines world. After several meetings and a lot of hard work by her and her team (including Emma), our brochures were produced.
The brochures were produced and delivered to our door and they continue to be an important part of our business promotion. Think we may need another design in the future as we update our services even further. Watch this space…….
Take a look at our website for an online version or email us for a hard copy.
Last but by no means least, our most recent addition to the Finesse Chauffeurs Family is Phil Aston. I met Phil and his talented wife Sue, several years ago at various networking events.
We had been aware for a long time that we needed help with promoting our website and our visibility online. So who else to call but Phil. His work is in the early stages, but somehow I can see us having a long term business relationship.
Now I am aware it is not possible to include every individual who has helped us along our journey. To Barry, Belinda, Loveday, Tony, Leon, Graham, Rhys, Matt, James, Adrian and Mike. We would not be here without you all. Thanks and here’s to the future. If we have forgotten anyone, please put this down to brain melt during lockdown. We hope you are all safe and well.
It is great for us to look back at all the talented people and businesses in Cornwall who have helped us through our ongoing journey. You never know where business will lead, but we hope to carry on for many more years to come. We will always look to local people to support us.
The person behind the dreams and initiation of “Finesse Chauffeurs” is Mark Hollis.
Mark was born and brought up in Woodstock, Oxfordshire. Where he worked in the transport industry for over 30 years. Encompassing areas of trade such as multinational companies and also smaller franchises. Working in a variety of technical, advisory and management roles.
His first experiences of chauffeur work started earlier in his career, however as work moved and changed this no longer became the mainstay of his role. One that Mark sadly missed.
After moving to Cornwall in 2004, Mark worked initially in a technical role, however utilised his time to build and develop the ideas and utilise skills that would go on to become “Finesse Chauffeurs”.
Many people are not aware, that the company they see today started in more humble beginnings. Initially we provided our services for weddings only. Before we began to get increasing interest in alternative travel options and so the development of “Finesse Chauffeurs” began in earnest. A small stepping stone for the many other services we provide today. We now provide all aspects of personal private chauffeur services from business, personal, stay-cations, tours and transfers to name just a few.
Mark continues to be at the forefront of driving the business forward into the next decade. With many interesting additional services, and experiences, that our clients can enjoy as part of our exceptional standards.
It has obviously been a tough time across the global travel industry in these difficult times, due to COVID-19. However we have managed to utilise this time wisely to move the business forward into the future market.
Mark and the rest of the team are committed to building a strong future, based on our knowledge, feedback from clients and understanding of the marketplace. We have forever worked on moving the business forward, adapting to the changing needs of our travelling clients and the future of travel as a whole.
In his spare time, Mark enjoys relaxing with his German Shepherd / Husky cross, Nessa, or taking her out for “walkies”. Spending time with family and visiting his son who is away, currently at University. Mark and his wife, Nicola, who also works with “Finesse” enjoy going out for meals, the cinema and attending business events together.
Mark and the team are looking forward to seeing you all soon. More members of the “Meet the team” to follow………….

With the travel industry being one of the hardest hit since the outbreak of COVID-19, we must all wonder how and when is this going to end?
Certainly our business has lost most of our bookings for tours and transfers since the outbreak. Our business is mainly based from the US and Canadian Market, as well as local travellers heading off on their annual holidays.
So the question everyone is asking is when will this all return to normal?
I think we will all need to be looking at a new normal. After all the opening of borders and flights recommencing is not going to see a stampede of clients coming through the doors. This does not mean that businesses are not going to be able to replenish and survive. It just means looking at this situation through different eyes.
The one thing we have learnt and know is that peoples search for adventure and travel will always remain. The issue we have is that for some their confidence will need to be rebuilt and replenished. Our industry and us at Finesse have to find a way to rebuild this trust and see clients slowly confident to return.
Very early into this pandemic, before lock-down / social distancing measures were introduced, Finesse Chauffeurs put in place their own COVID-19 policy. We introduced additional strict cleaning between each job, antibacterial hand gel and wipes for clients and support for both drivers and clients. Following lock-down, we took the decision to stop all but essential travel. We felt that travel into Cornwall, specifically, was only going to put added pressure on our wonderful NHS staff and services.
So, this has given us time to work on how the business can progress post COVID-19. Obviously our no.1 priority is the safety of everyone and promoting trust in our services. We already only offer private travel. No element of our business for shared travel will be available. Sadly the only service we did provide pre-Covid-19 was our preset tours in Newquay and Truro (Cornwall). These will no longer be available. We are in preparation and talks with other suppliers to provide our own luxury tours that individuals will be able to book direct with us. As at present, these will be for individuals and small groups of people who book together. We will be maintaining our usual standards of cleanliness and putting in protective equipment to ensure the clients feel safe. These will be optional to wear and utilise.
The world remains a big place with so many hidden gems that people have yet to discover. During this time we have been able to look out and see the amazing wildlife and hear the sounds of nature around us. These are the things that people will be wanting to get back and see, hear and explore. Our human need to explore and witness life outside of our everyday environment is inevitable.
During this time we are working on some visual indications of life in the UK to entice you all to return. When you do, we will have lots of special experiences that you can participate and absorb during your tours “with a little finesse”.
At Finesse Chauffeurs and Tours we see many new experiences and a great future on the horizon. We would love to chat to you about restarting your adventures with us in the near future.
